It's the only file I created; nothing was committed. **Counts** | Plan | Live | Struck | Rows | |---|---|---|---| | 1 | 78 | 1 | 79 | | 2 | 12 | 0 | 12 | | 3 | 27 | 1 | 28 | | 4 | 135 | 0 | 135 | | 5 | 43 | 0 | 43 | | 6 | 64 | 0 | 64 | | Total | 359 | 2 | 361 | **Struck rows.** Neither plan's own table marks these; the index and the later plans do. They carry status `struck`, with the striking plan in the file cell. - RFS-1-C15 is struck by Plan 5 Task 2a and replaced by RFS-5-C43. - RFS-3-C28 is struck by Plan 6 Task 16 and replaced by RFS-6-C62. **Conflicts** - No ID is listed by two plans, and none repeats inside a plan. - RFS-2-C08 differs between table and task step. - Table: `<process> is not a process this release declares`. - Plan 2 Task 5 test: `is not a process the release declares`. - Not a conflict, but noted in the deck: Plan 1 renders `<name>`, `<var>` and `<dir>` with `%q` in C02, C03, C06 and C08. **Referenced but not in a table.** No real string is missing. These IDs appear in the plans but aren't in the deck: - `RFS-0-C01`, `RFS-1-C1`, `RFS-1-C001`, `RFS-7-C01` and `RFS-6-C99` are the id-pattern test examples in Plan 1 Task 1. - `RFS-2-C03a` is the index's note that Plan 2's first-draft id became C12. **Format choices to know about** - I kept the model's four columns (id, file, text, status) so the existing parser still reads it. The plan's context note, such as "(fact)" or Plan 5 C01's prefix note, goes in the file cell in parentheses. - Plan 4's two-column tables have no file column. I took the file from each sub-heading, and kept the sub-headings. - I stripped the backticks where a plan wrapped a whole cell as one code span (plans 4, 5 and 6, and some file cells). Cells with several spans are verbatim: Plan 5 C04, C36 and C41, and Plan 6 C41's `\|`. Every row's text was checked against its plan row. - Rows are in ID order. Plan 2 had C12 out of place, and Plan 5 listed C42, C43, C41. **For the gate.** - The current `parseCopyTable` accepts only `pending` or `approved`, so it will reject the two `struck` rows. Plan 1's struck-row rule needs to learn that status, or those rows need deleting before the gate runs. - Most Plan 2, 3, 5 and 6 file cells aren't bare paths, so `Path()` won't resolve them for the applied-text check.</result> <usage><subagent_tokens>154094</subagent_tokens><tool_uses>30</tool_uses><duration_ms>352757</duration_ms></usage> </task-notification>

The user can send it another message and resume it, so the same task-id may notify more than once.</note> <result>I've edited the plan for findings 1, 2 and 8. I checked each one against the code at 3dff2214 first, and all three hold, so none was rejected. The only file touched is `docs/superpowers/plans/2026-10-24-rootfs-apps-3-lifecycle.md`. Nothing is committed, no test was run (this round only changes the plan), and my one scratch file in `$TMPDIR` is deleted. The new "Review dispositions (Astra R1)" section sits after the plan header, with "Cross-plan changes" under it. ## Dispositions - **1. Accepted (Plan 3 side).** The bug is real. Polling a command reads the binary cmd unit (`internal/instancectl/cmd.go:129`), and stopping one stops and waits on the binary unit too (`cmdunit.go:256`, `backend_exec.go:1656`). But `CmdRootfs` starts the rootfs cmd unit, so a running migration reads as gone and its stop proves the wrong unit. - **Changed:** new assumption A8 uses Plan 2's runtime-aware cmd unit. Task 10 (release) and Task 12 (`carlos run`) return it for every rootfs command, including after a failed start. - **Tests:** the scripted `CmdStatus` fake is gone. A new test harness, `rootfsCtlHarness`, runs the real `instancectl.Server` handler and client with a running rootfs cmd unit and no binary one. New tests: `TestReleasePollsTheRootfsCmdUnit`, `TestReleaseStopProvesTheRootfsCmdUnitGone` and `TestRootfsRunPollsAndStopsTheRootfsUnit`. - **2. Accepted.** The bug is real. - On a cold wake the entry is `actWaking`, which the sweep's lease check skips (`activator.go:4563`), and a lost lease does not cancel the wake. - During a swap the sweep only notices at the safety deadline. It then allows up to 2 minutes to stop, but the lease leaves only a 5-second margin. - **Changed:** `runRelease` now takes the lease it runs under (the wake's lease, or the incumbent's replica during a swap) and the calling site's existing ownership gate. - The gate runs before the start and again just before root is asked to start the command. - A supervisor stops the release and proves it gone when the lease reports loss, or 2 minutes before its safety deadline. Normally that deadline is 10 to 15 minutes ahead, because the lease is renewed every 5. - Losing the lease is treated as losing ownership, never as the build failing: a swap is abandoned, and a cold wake starts nothing after it. If the stop can't be proven, the lease is left to expire on its own rather than released. - In the swap, the release now runs after the step 3a ownership checks rather than before them, so it passes the same gate as the new process. - **Tests:** lease loss during a cold-wake migration, during a swap's migration, stalled renewals, an unproven stop, and two race tests. - **New string:** RFS-3-C29. - **8. Accepted.** The bug is real. litestream does nothing for a database file that doesn't exist (`db.go:966` in v0.5.14). So an app that never opens `CARLOS_DB` has no file and no replica, its next wake reads as a fresh boot, and the "served but no data" refusal blocks every restart. - **Changed:** new deviation D7 and Task 7. On a rootfs first boot that has never served, the agent writes an empty SQLite file at `CARLOS_DB` under the first-wake lease, before `release` and `web`. It writes through `instancefs`, the same way seeds are placed, and the SQLite driver never opens a tenant-writable path. The file is synced to the replica once replication starts. - **The refusal is unchanged:** it runs before the placeholder, and no placeholder is ever written for a row that has served. - **Tests:** `TestRootfsAppWithoutSQLiteRestarts` covers restart on the same box, restart from the replica, and the refusal still firing when both the file and the replica are gone. It also has negative tests. ## Cross-plan changes (what Plan 3 needs from Plan 2) Plan 2's file was being edited while I worked. Its fixer already names these, and my plan uses them: - `RootfsControl.CmdStatusRootfs(ctx, host, invocation string) (instancectl.CmdStatus, error)`: the status read with `runtime=rootfs`. Its handler reads `RootfsUnitName(RoleCmd, host)` and takes no `image`. - `cmdUnit.Poll` and `cmdUnit.StopAndSettle` choosing the unit from `rt.Runtime` themselves. Stopping goes through `StopRootfs(ctx, host, RoleCmd, 0, "")`, then `waitRoleCgroupEmpty(ctx, rt, RoleCmd)` checks the right unit via `unitNameFor`. Plan 3 then builds `&cmdUnit{b, rt, inv, out, errs}` the same way for both runtimes. - Nothing from Plan 2 is needed for findings 2 or 8. Plan 3 adds `SafeUntil` and `Lost` to `execLease` itself, and `*lease.Replicator` already has both. ## New copy row (needs Paul's review) - **RFS-3-C29** (`internal/rolloutwords/words.go`, `EventReleaseLeaseLost`): "the release command of build %s was stopped because this box no longer holds the instance. it runs again on the next attempt" Task 1 now expects 29 rows. Because C29 was added after the series copy review, Task 1 Step 2 sends it to Paul on its own.</result> <usage><subagent_tokens>230591</subagent_tokens><tool_uses>65</tool_uses><duration_ms>710744</duration_ms></usage> </task-notification>

Each of the three plans now opens with a "Review dispositions (Astra R1)" section, a list of string IDs and "Cross-plan changes". Nothing was committed, nothing was run, and I touched only the three plan files. My scratch scripts in `$TMPDIR` are deleted. **Plan 1** (`docs/superpowers/plans/2026-10-24-rootfs-apps-1-ship.md`) - **Finding 9, accepted.** Nothing serialises two first ships today. `shipSem` lets two in at once, the direct-mode ship (`cli.go:2365`) never reaches the console, and `WithAppMutation` is a plain call when host claims are off. A console lock can't cover direct mode, so I used the store's create-only put, the pattern the trash marker already uses (`claimRawTrashApp`): - The app's first ship writes a marker, `apps/<acct>/<app>/kind.json` (`AppKindMarkerKey`, `AppKindMarker`). - Both publication paths, `claimRawShip` and `claimRawShipSpooled`, re-check the kind and set up the marker in `establishShipKind` before their first artifact write. The ship that loses the race reads the winner's marker, is refused, and writes no bytes. - The door maps that refusal to 409, not the retry-flavoured 502. - The key is already covered by the existing app-scoped `apps` classifier family and is removed with the app's prefix on purge, so no new family is needed. - The concurrent mixed-kind tests are `TestFirstShipsOfTwoKindsRaceOneWinner` (release layer, looped 50 times, run under `-race` in the gate) and `TestAPIShipFirstShipsOfTwoKindsAtOnce` (through the real door). The "known race, accepted" bullet is gone. - One limit: if a first ship writes its marker and then fails before its manifest, the app's kind is still fixed. The new refusals call it the app's "first ship", never a release, and shipping that kind again works. - **R11.** `Manifest.JIT` is valid only on rootfs releases, set by a `--jit` flag, carried in the door's meta, and backed by a `--check` warning (`rootfsimage.JITProgram` spots Node, Bun or Deno). I chose a flag rather than a processes-file key because `--hibernate` is the same kind of release-wide switch, and the processes file is keyed by process names, so a `jit` key would read as a valid worker called `jit`. `jit` is per release, so it is not part of the kind check. - **Strings:** added RFS-1-C80 to C85; changed RFS-1-C13, C29, C34. **Plan 4** (`docs/superpowers/plans/2026-10-24-rootfs-apps-4-console-and-docs.md`) - **Finding 13, accepted.** Today `fleets.go:217` answers "that name is taken" to any retry, so a failed owner-record write can't be repaired. Now, when the fleet row already exists: - **Caller's own fleet:** the door writes the record first. An exact retry then gets 200, and a request with a different bucket still gets the existing 409. - **Another account's fleet:** the existing 409, with no read or write of the record. - **Why no periodic reconciler:** it would be a new worker with its own claim census, and the retry is what the door's own 500 message asks for. - **Test:** `TestFleetCreateRetryRepairsAFailedOwnerRecord` fails one write, then recovers on the retry without a console restart. Two more tests cover the other-bucket and other-account cases. - **R11.** The contract page's "No JIT" section becomes "JIT compilers", with a short Node note. The Rails YJIT row now offers `--jit`. The sample app stays without JIT. - **Strings:** added RFS-4-C136 to C138; changed RFS-4-C54, C55, C81, C112. Nothing new for finding 13. **Plan 6** (`docs/superpowers/plans/2026-10-24-rootfs-apps-6-interactive.md`) - **Finding 10, accepted.** The session is reserved in the hub before the grant and the admission, and a reserved session counts as live. A failed admission drops the reservation and writes no audit row; registration follows a successful one. New tests: `TestAdmissionHoldsItsReservationUntilRegistered`, which pauses between record publication and registration, and `TestAFailedAdmissionReleasesItsReservation`. - **Finding 11, accepted.** Instead of fragmenting, the run relay gets its own bounded frame size, `RunMaxFrame` (one kind byte, a 12-byte header and one 262,144-byte chunk: 262,157 bytes), set at both ends through `DialFrame`/`SendFrame`. Sessions keep the 64 KiB `MaxFrame`. Tests carry a full 262,144-byte chunk and refuse one byte more. - **Finding 12, accepted.** The plan never defined the "hello" it relied on, and took the incarnation where `RunPick` and `launchable` need the agent's boot ID. Now: - The relay's first frame is `RunHello{Schema, Run, Box, Boot}`, and the console's pickup uses that box and boot. The incarnation stays out of it and is checked as today. - The console sends back `RunPicked` (picked or not-picked). The box starts nothing until it gets "picked" and reads the record back naming its own box and boot. - If the box drops after pickup, the console closes the run as lost. - **R11.** No new code. The test `TestRootfsTTYStartFollowsTheReleasesJIT` checks that interactive sessions get Plan 2's JIT handling. - **Strings:** none added or changed. **Cross-plan changes** - **Plan 2:** read `release.Manifest.JIT` (JSON `jit`). Put the JIT drop-in and the effective `MemoryDenyWriteExecute` check in the shared rootfs start path, so they also cover the tty role. Plan 4's docs promise this for every process of a JIT release, including `carlos run` and interactive sessions. - **Plan 4 (from Plan 1):** `KindConflictError` and `HibernateConflictError` gain a `FirstShip` field. Any door must use `Error()`, never a copy of the sentence. `AppKind` is unchanged. - **Index:** add the bucket key `release.AppKindMarkerKey(acct, app)` (`apps/<acct>/<app>/kind.json`) to the shared contract. Note `interactive.RunMaxFrame` and `RunHello` as Plan 6's names. - **Copy deck** (`docs/superpowers/plans/2026-10-24-rootfs-apps-copy.md`, which I did not edit): it needs the added and changed rows above, RFS-1-C80 to C85 and RFS-4-C136 to C138. I removed the RFS-2-C08 entry, as you said. - The `%q` note for Plan 1 C02, C03, C06 and C08 stays, since it isn't a conflict. - I spot-checked the new and changed rows against their quotes in the plans' task steps and found no mismatches. **What the fix round changed** - **Added rows:** RFS-1-C80 to C85, RFS-3-C29, RFS-4-C136 to C138, RFS-5-C44. - **Changed text:** RFS-1-C13, C29 and C34; RFS-4-C54, C55, C81 and C112; RFS-5-C36, C40 and C41. - **Changed where cell:** RFS-5-C42. - **Fact notes:** RFS-4-C55 and C81 gained a `(fact, R11)` note in their file cell. - **Nothing else:** The diff found no rows added, changed, removed or struck beyond your list. C15 and RFS-3-C28 remain the only struck rows. **Judgement calls** - RFS-4-C136 to C138 would break id order if I put them beside C55, where the plan has them. I added a `### docs/site/rootfs.md, JIT rows` subsection after C135, which also matches where the deck put Plan 2's C12. - The "From the plan:" lines for Plan 1 (placeholders, now with `<program>`, and the footnote), Plan 3 (count 29) and Plan 5 (44 IDs) are updated to the plans' new text. **Referenced but not in a table** This section is unchanged. I re-scanned every plan and the index, and the only ids outside the tables are still the Plan 1 id-pattern test examples and `RFS-2-C03a`. A bare `C60` in Plan 5 is a cross-reference to RFS-6-C60, which is in the deck. I checked the deck itself with a Python stand-in for the new parser: all 372 ids parse, none repeat, and none is struck. No Go was run, since there is no implementation yet. ## Dispositions (Astra R2) 1. **JIT cleanup leaves stale settings: accepted** (Plan 2 Task 5, Plan 6 Task 6). Every cleanup path deletes the JIT drop-in without reloading systemd, and the run, worker, cmd and tty unit names are reused. I fixed it "before reuse": a start reloads when its drop-in changed or a reload is owed. Removals mark a reload owed, only a reload that succeeds clears it, and a restarted control service owes one. I chose this over reloading after each removal so stop paths stay reload-free, which fits the earlier wake-latency work. Tests: `TestRootfsNonJITStartAfterJITCleanupReloads` (JIT start, cleanup, then a non-JIT start with the unit kept loaded, using a fake that models systemd's loaded setting) and `TestRootfsJITReloadStaysOwedUntilItSucceeds`. Plan 6 adds `TestRootfsTTYNonJITSessionAfterAJITOneReloads`. 2. **Instance create races the first ship: accepted** (Plan 1 Task 3, Plan 4 Tasks 2 to 5). - Plan 1 adds `release.EstablishedKind`, which reads the release history and falls back to the kind marker. It also exports `release.EstablishFirstKind`. - The shared boundary is the console's existing per-app lock, `lockApp`. Both doors take it only while the app has no kind, and recheck under it. The ship door counts binary records and writes the marker inside the lock; the create door rereads the head and writes its record inside it. - `WithAppMutation` is a plain call when host claims are off, so it could not serve as the boundary on its own. - Tests cover both interleavings: `TestCreateDuringAnUnpublishedFirstRootfsShipMintsRootfs` and `TestFirstRootfsShipWaitsForAnInFlightCreate`. 3. **The refusal sat on an unreachable path: accepted** (Plan 1 Task 8, Plan 4 Task 5). Plan 1 now names a slot in `shipRootfsParts`, after the identical-reship short circuit and before `ShipSpooled`; Plan 4 fills it and no longer touches `apicli.go`. The real-door test stays, and now also checks that no marker is left behind and that shipping again after deleting the instance works. 4. **Rootfs launches skip the egress readiness pass: accepted** (Plan 5 Task 7, Plan 3 Tasks 9 to 12, Plan 2 Task 9). The readiness call now comes before every rootfs launch: web and generations, workers, `release` and `carlos run`. It always runs before the exec gate and the call to root. Tests: `TestEveryRootfsLaunchWaitsForEgressReady` (activator ordering) and `TestEgressReadyAppliesAFreshGrantWithThePeriodicPassDelayed` (in the host package, to avoid an import cycle). 5. **The copy gate cannot parse its deck: accepted** (Plan 1 Task 1). The id pattern is now `^RFS-[1-6]-C(0[1-9]|[1-9][0-9]{1,2})$`. As you asked, the parser learns `struck` through a new `parseCopyTableStatuses`, for this deck only. A struck row is never reviewed, built or checked as applied, and the older decks keep their two statuses. `TestRootfsCopyDeckParses` reads the actual deck. 6. **The compatibility test contradicts Plan 2's staging: accepted** (Plan 1 Task 2, Plan 2 Task 3). - Old adopters are now tested against a frozen copy of the 64a002c8 artifact pick, checked against `git show`. - The current refusal sits in the adopt pass, which is where the row meets the manifest. A new field, `stageCheck.runtime`, makes staging refuse a release of the other kind before anything downloads. `adoptHost` re-checks the manifest it ends up with, because the retained-copy path never reaches the staging check. - Tests: `TestStageFromRefusesAReleaseOfTheOtherRuntime`, `TestAdoptPassRefusesARootfsReleaseForABinaryRow` and `TestAdoptPassStagesARootfsReleaseForARootfsRow`. ## Decisions to review - **Finding 2 relies on one console per deployment bucket.** The lock is in-process. That is enough only because instance records are written only by the console, and one console serves a bucket (the rule stated in `applocks.go`). The direct-bucket `carlos ship` never ran this refusal and still does not. - **Two deck rows were wrongly struck.** RFS-1-C15 is written by Plan 1 Task 8 until Plan 5 replaces it, and RFS-3-C28 by Plan 3 Task 12 until Plan 6 does. As struck rows, the gate would have refused the tasks that write them. I set both back to `pending` so Paul reviews them. Plans 5 and 6 now mark them `struck` when they remove the strings. The deck counts are now 372 live, 0 struck. ## String IDs - **Added:** none. - **Changed:** RFS-1-C15 and RFS-3-C28 (status back to `pending`, file-cell note updated, text unchanged). ## New shared names in the index `release.EstablishedKind`, `release.EstablishFirstKind`, the `lockApp` first-kind boundary, `rootfsHead.Unfixed`, `jitReloadOwed`, `stageCheck.runtime` / `errRuntimeMismatch`, `rootfsCopyStruck` / `parseCopyTableStatuses`, the egress hook sites, and the new id pattern. The user can send it another message and resume it, so the same task-id may notify more than once.</note> <result>Both review inputs are built and `preview-check.mjs` passes on 4b with no "Preview error" lines. Its output was `Preview: every binding matches strings.json`, with no list-only line, so every 4b string is on the page. **Paths** (`$TMPDIR` is `/home/paulca/.cache/tmp/claude-1001`) - 4a: `$TMPDIR/rootfs-copy/plan-4a/strings.json`, list-only, no preview. - 4b: `$TMPDIR/rootfs-copy/plan-4b/strings.json` and `$TMPDIR/rootfs-copy/plan-4b/preview/index.html`, with `doc.css` copied beside it and linked. **Counts** - 4a holds 29 rows, RFS-4-C01 to C29. The sections are console refusals, CLI, sample app page, version 2, and sample README. - 4b holds 109 rows, RFS-4-C30 to C138. The sections are rootfs.md, rails.md, laravel-and-django.md, cli.md and nav.json. - Together they hold 138 unique ids, none missing. I did not diff every `text` against the deck. The script took each one from the deck's Plan 4 table, and `preview-check` confirms each bound element matches its string. - Every entry has a section, label, text and context, and `notes` where there is a real constraint. No em dashes. **Preview** - It has five page sections in reading order: rootfs.md, rails.md, laravel-and-django.md, cli.md, then nav.json. - C136 to C138 sit after C55, as the plan's Task 7 says. C38 to C41 and C45 to C47 are bullet lists. - The plan's code fences are in the preview as unbound `<pre>` blocks so the reading order looks right. The notes say they are not under review. For the queue migration sample the plan gives no content, so there is a dashed placeholder box instead. - The cli.md and nav.json sections have unbound grey headings showing where each paragraph or menu entry goes. **Decisions for you** - **Markdown links:** I used plain `data-copy`, not `data-copy-html`. `data-copy-html` compares the inner HTML to the string text, so a rendered link can never match `[label](/docs/...)`. Six rows therefore show their link as Markdown source: C47, C65, C110, C112 and C128. Their notes say the brackets, parentheses and path must survive. Two of those, C47 and C112, are among the ones the deck marks as fact or changed. - **"(fact)" rows:** I added a note on each saying the sentence states platform behaviour from Plans 1 to 3, so the facts need checking as well as the words. - **Shell fences:** The plan lists five positions (after C95, C97, C100, C103, C104) for four fences. I put them after C95, C97, C100 and C103. They are unbound, so this changes nothing in the check. - **Heading levels in rails.md:** I assumed `#` for the title, `##` for C67, C82, C88, C94, C96, C101, C107 and C109, and `###` for Puma, One database, Uploads and YJIT, since the plan only says `##`/`###`. **Cleanup:** An earlier scratch directory I made under `$TMPDIR/rootfs-copy/` vanished mid-run, probably another agent's cleanup, since other agents are writing there. I rebuilt my scripts under `$TMPDIR/rootfs-copy/p4-work/` and deleted them and that directory afterwards. Only `plan-4a/` and `plan-4b/` remain from this task, and I deleted nothing else.</result> <usage><subagent_tokens>120916</subagent_tokens><tool_uses>19</tool_uses><duration_ms>255005</duration_ms></usage> </task-notification>
