Calls on estilo's shared chrome (round 2) open

On branch feat/r2-shared-chrome

🤖 Calls adopts estilo's shared chrome (spec: estilo spec/shared-chrome, docs/superpowers/specs/2026-09-23-shared-chrome.md §4–§9 and the §12 Calls row). Head 732122b. It is merged with main bf4e24d (feat/home-consumer, #22), which is also what's live. No merge requested.

Merge order

  1. estilo fix/menu-item-danger (oficina/estilo #20, 759a8ff, CI passed). This is the one estilo correction. Calls pins its pseudo-version for now.
  2. Then re-pin Calls to the estilo merge, and merge this branch.

What changed

  • Bar. estilo-bar (52px) replaces rastrillo's 81px topbar. The nav is Meetings · Settings, with the current page marked. The bar context shows the meeting's title on that meeting's pages. "All apps" is the estilo switcher, from HOME_DIRECTORY_ORIGIN.
  • Account menu. Identity, then "Connect your Oficina account" (only for local sessions of members), Appearance (/appearance, estilo_appearance, data-theme written server-side), Help → Open source, and one Sign out. Gone: the raw email, the blue Settings link, the wrapping Sign out button and the one-item Help dropdown.
  • Room menu. The room keeps no bar, because it is the call window (Paul, 09-28). Its dark title menu now uses the account menu's order and words: standing line, Signed in as, Meetings, Settings, Help → Open source, Sign out. The open menu sits above the notices (r3 C3).
  • Errors. Error pages use estilo-error. There are three kinds: - "Page not found": unknown routes, the guards, and a GET to a POST-only path. - "Meeting not available": a missing, ended or unshared meeting or invitation. - "Something went wrong": with a Reference and Try again.

Errors are split by Accept. A non-HTML request gets plain text with the same status, so room.js's readRefusal is unchanged. Panics are caught by a router recoverer, and by Options.ErrorPage outside the router. A DELETE gets 405 with an Allow header.

  • Signed-out page. /signed-out is now a styled page standalone too (the door's notice). With Home, connect's words are used.
  • Titles. Every title is <Page> · Calls, built once in the layout. Examples: "Calls" (the list), "Settings · Calls", "Meeting settings · Weekly sync · Calls", "Page not found · Calls".
  • Callouts. rst-notice is gone. The relay notice ("Calls outside your network may not connect yet.") and "already open in another tab" are now warnings. The two "…saved." notices are positive. The agent token notice is a warning.
  • Links. Links take their colour from estilo base.css.
  • List rows. Meetings and agents are rst-list > rst-row. Each meeting's actions are one ⋯ menu drawn as an estilo-menu. "End meeting for everyone" is now the one label for ending a meeting everywhere: the list, the holding screen, the confirm page and the room.
  • Copy. - The door's button says Sign in (Paul's 10-01 ruling). - Help line: "We'll email you a link that signs you in. It works once and expires in 15 minutes." - Sent: "If that address can sign in here, we've sent it a link. …" - "Use a different address" keeps return_to. - Holding: "You'll join as paul." (guests: "…, a guest."). Room: "You're in this call as paul." - A malformed address is now the field's own error. It is checked with keymail's SplitAddress before the member gate, and no mail is sent.
  • return_to. - A signed-out page GET goes to /signin?return_to=<page>. The page is remembered in a sealed cookie (a port of Slides' b19fbda: its own key, origin-bound purpose, issued/expiry checked, one cookie, strict base64, SafePath, never a /j/ capability path), and /continue spends it after any pending join. - In Home mode main's rule is kept: every signed-out GET carries returnto. - A signed-in GET /signin skips to returnto. - The room's "Sign in again" returns to the meeting.
  • Revoked-user loop (Astra on Docs #65 and Sheets #39; Astra P3 (1) on #22). A Home session whose member is definitely removed (linkstore.ErrRefused, row gone, or no longer a member) is now signed out and sent to /signin/local?err=removed, both from /signin and from any page. A database that can't be read still never ends a session (TestHomeLookupDatabaseFailureKeepsSession).
  • Referrer-Policy (§9.5; Astra P3 (2) on #22). Open source and Share meeting are now strict-origin. The native hand-off pages keep no-referrer and now show no account menu.
  • Layout reserved up front. - Holding screen: - #devices is in the layout from the first paint, and a <noscript> sheet hides it without script. - The controls come first. - The Studio audio row and the audio test are shown from the start. - The speaker row keeps its space. - Room: call-layout.js laid out a task after the tiles changed, so a frame could paint a lone self tile at filmstrip size before it filled the stage. It now lays out at the first of that task and the next animation frame.
  • Times. Start a call titles the call in the browser's zone (zone.js, time/tzdata embedded). Without script it names the zone: "Call, 30 Sep 20:47 UTC".
  • Pins. home/connect is at Home main 7a0f19c. estilo is at 759a8ff (cce1101 plus the correction). callscore.SignOut still accepts the 307, as on main.

estilo correction (one)

  • estilo-menu-item="danger" / menu.Item.Danger (#20). estilo's menu had no destructive tone, so "End meeting for everyone" in a row menu lit up blue like any other row. Rastrillo's .rst-danger can't be used from estilo CSS (§0.1).

Verification

  • GOTOOLCHAIN=go1.26.5 make ci: green.
  • make browser: 43/43 scenarios passed, none skipped, exit 0. That is the 42 existing scenarios plus a new chrome one, and the 15 node test files with 0 failures (log: polish-audit/r2-calls-make-browser.log, at 716c261; the only later commit adds a Go test). The run used fake media flags. All 43 "--- PASS" lines were counted.
  • Shared check (r2-chrome-check.mjs with the new r2-calls-check.config.mjs): 831 ok, all checks passed, at 1440/840/800/390/320, signed in and out. Output: polish-audit/r2-calls-check.output.txt. - The room is excluded because it has no bar. - I added cfg.launchArgs to the shared script so Calls can run with fake media.
  • CLS (final build):

| hop | before (main) | after | |---|---|---| | sign-in → first page | — | 0.0000 | | list → holding → list (shared check) | 0.0291 (1440, browser scenario) | 0.0005 | | holding load 1440 / 390 | 0.0116 / 0.0000 | 0.0006 / 0.0007 | | holding → room (Join) 1440 / 390 | 0.0000 / 0.0003 | 0.0000 / 0.0003 | | list → room (direct) 1440 / 390 | 0.4529 (0.4609 in the scenario; intermittent) / 0.0003 | 0.0000 / 0.0003, and 0.0000 worst over 8 loads in the scenario | | error → home | — | 0.0002 |

The bar's top/height is 0/52 on every hop.

  • Red first. - 13 of the 15 new black-box tests in internal/callstest/chrome_test.go fail on origin/main 84ed5dc (polish-audit/r2-calls-red-on-main.txt). - The other two are guards and were shown red by mutation: a forged return cookie is followed when the seal check is mutated out, and the token-coverage test fails when a token is renamed. - TestPagesWithSignOutSendStrictOrigin fails on main. - The chrome browser scenario fails on main on the bar, the holding CLS (0.0291), the room CLS (0.4609) and the menu words (polish-audit/r2-calls-browser-chrome-red-on-main.txt). It passes here twice. - The revoked-member loop test fails with the /signin check mutated out. TestCallTitle was rewritten, and its new UTC case would not compile on main.
  • Screenshots: polish-audit/shots/r2-calls-{before,after}-*-{1440,390}.png. They cover sign-in, invalid address, sent, expired, 404 signed in and out, the invite, the list, the account menu, the Menu at 390, the row menu, settings, Open source, holding, the room, the room menu, and after sign-out.

Left out on purpose, and disagreements with the spec

  1. The room has no estilo bar. The spec predates the call window. Its menu mirrors the account menu instead, without Appearance (the call window is always dark).
  2. Settings is in the nav, not an account item. §8.2 lists "Calls: Settings" as an item, but §12.1 says "Nav: Meetings · Settings". It is the team's defaults and agents, not the person's account, and one copy means one label.
  3. The sent page says "that address". rastrillo's Begin redirects without the address (as in Docs, Sheets and Slides).
  4. Holding with no camera and no microphone (headless default, permission refused): CLS 0.0084 at 1440 and 0.0105 at 1280×720. The empty rows hide, per the repo's "a field with nothing in it is clutter" rule, which is pinned by devices.test.mjs. Browsers without setSinkId keep a blank speaker-row slot at the panel's foot.
  5. The recoverer is tested as middleware, not through a route that panics. There is none, as in Docs.
  6. Not in scope here (r3 audit, still open): Start a call's three screens (C4), U7 lowercase confirm names, U12 a Copy button on the agent token, the datetime-local mask, and a door Help line that differs per app. The brand shows twice over the door, and the 15px scrollbar-gutter strip is suite-wide (r3 SUMMARY #10).
  7. The http.Error classification gate lists: native_auth.go 12 and knockpush.go 7 (native JSON), errors.go 2 (405 and plainError), and render.go 1 (template failure).

VERDICT: CHANGES-REQUIRED

Reviewer: Astra (GPT-6-Astra via Codex). Whole-branch review of feat/r2-shared-chrome at 732122b8bd4055f89deb037766921c2f22e07c04, against fetched origin/main bf4e24d08329d5fd61ebf8a69ff649cdc6dec375. Followed REVIEW-BRIEF.md, the target's AGENTS.md, the shared-chrome spec, Paul's R2 rulings, both Calls audits, all calls-* memory notes, and the earlier Docs #65/#68, Sheets #39, Slides #14, Calendar #17 and Memoria #21 records. The blocker is the required integration with current estilo; the reviewed pin itself passes its gates.

  1. P2 / blocking integration — internal/calls/auth.go:266–270, go.mod:6: the required estilo-main repin does not compile. The branch currently builds only against its older 759a8ff pin. I built the exact Calls source against estilo main 0b4d92c using a scratch alternate modfile: Go reports four unknown chrome.SignIn fields, Heading, AddressLabel, Help, Submit. Estilo's danger branch merges cleanly into that main, so repinning after its merge necessarily brings in the door-copy API too. Fix: integrate Calls door-copy #23, remove all four overrides (including this branch's new Help), and pin the estilo main revision containing both changes. Removing those four fields in scratch makes the compile pass. Retain this branch's OpenSource, validated Return, error messages and signinAgain retry destination. When adopting .Sent(...), pass a.signinAgain(r, ""), not a bare /signin; otherwise the earlier Docs/Slides retry bugs return. Carry #23's email subject and .SignedOut(...) copy. Keep R2's central title composition: do not append Calls twice by feeding a complete .Title() into TitleParts. Re-run the final integrated gates before squash.
  1. P3 / low, nonblocking — internal/calls/static/calls-shell.css:24, internal/calls/templates/share.html:6: the hidden-control trap from Docs #65/#68 recurs. The newly added .calls-share-actions { display: flex } overrides the browser's [hidden] rule. Through the real Share POST in a Chromium context with JavaScript disabled, the actions container has hidden === true but computed display: flex; Copy link is 81.5 × 33.875px and Share is 69.89 × 33.875px, both visible and inert. Clicking Copy leaves the status empty. The invitation remains manually copyable, so this does not block the merge. Fix: explicitly hide .calls-share-actions[hidden] (or apply flex only to :not([hidden])), and protect the optional Share button's own hidden state from [rst-btn] as well. Add a browser assertion of actual visibility without script and without navigator.share, plus the enabled Copy path; testing the literal hidden attribute is insufficient.
  1. P3 / low, nonblocking — internal/calls/errors_test.go:14, wiring at internal/calls/app.go:443: the panic test bypasses the router registration. Removing r.Use(a.recoverToErrorPage) leaves TestAPanicIsTheErrorPageWithAReference green. This is the disclosed Docs/Memoria coverage gap again. The registration is correct today. Fix: keep the helper test and add a real-router regression. In scratch I made the return-cookie clock panic while requesting /signin/local?return_to=/settings with HTML Accept: the real router produces 500 plus Reference without the private sentinel; the same probe fails with an escaping panic when registration is removed. Also cover signed-in identity and non-HTML output through that path.

Merge order: land approved estilo danger #20 onto estilo main first. Between the two Calls branches, land the updated door-copy #23 first, then bring that actual squash result into R2, resolve toward the combined behaviour above, repin to combined estilo main, and land R2 only after its resulting head is green. Door-copy may independently land against estilo 0b4d92c earlier; R2 needs both prerequisites. Do not solve the conflict by retaining the old estilo pin or by reverting #23's copy. No merge was performed in this review.

Settings ruling: keeping Settings in Meetings · Settings navigation is acceptable. It edits team meeting defaults and agents, not account identity; §12.1 explicitly prescribes that nav even though §8.2 also lists an account item. The documented single-location choice avoids duplication, marks the current page, and works in the narrow Menu. The room's no-bar design and fixed dark appearance are also accepted; its title menu now has the checked identity/navigation/Help/Sign out wording and order, and sits above the notices.

Verification on the exact reviewed target:

  • GOTOOLCHAIN=go1.26.5 CGO_ENABLED=0 GOFLAGS=-count=1 make ci: exit 0, including migration consistency and credits. Hub CI also reports passed for 732122b.
  • GOTOOLCHAIN=go1.26.5 CGO_ENABLED=0 make browser: exit 0; 43 distinct scenarios started and all 43 passed, none skipped (869.448s). Counted the individual RUN and PASS names against the harness, including chrome, guestdirect, guest, removed, allowlist, signedout and scriptless. The 15 Node test files ran 342 tests, zero failures/cancellations/skips. Chromium used both required fake-media flags.
  • Shared r2-chrome-check.mjs with r2-calls-check.config.mjs: 831 checks passed, at 1440/840/800/390/320, signed in and out. This supplied configuration has the switcher disabled; I am not claiming a Home switcher browser run.
  • Room CLS: the committed chrome scenario actually ran eight direct loads, worst 0.0000. A separate eight-load run additionally asserted successful admission and a 1400 × 860px self tile on every load, again worst 0.0000. Independent fresh checks: desktop holding 0.0006, holding→room 0.0000, direct room 0.0000; phone 0.0007 / 0.0003 / 0.0003. The full scenario's holding load measured 0.0017, still below 0.01. Inspected all 33 supplied r2-calls-after-* screenshots.
  • Three new regression tests were each made red by changing production behaviour in scratch: HTML for all Accepts → TestErrorPagesAreSplitByAccept; credits no-referrer → TestPagesWithSignOutSendStrictOrigin; omitted revoked-member sign-in check → TestARemovedHomeMemberIsNotBouncedBetweenSigninAndThePage. Each exited 1 for the expected assertion. Restored source and reran all three green.
  • The guest /m/ guard is retained. Non-HTML missing-route/meeting responses remain plain text; room.js's readRefusal is unchanged and still recognizes redirected or 401/403 sign-out responses. The 307 fix is byte-identical: callscore/session.go and its tests have the same Git blobs as bf4e24d, and TestSignOutAcceptsTheHomeChain passes.
  • Return-cookie review and independent probes passed: separate derived key; origin-bound calls.return.v1:<origin> purpose; strict/canonical encoding; one cookie; checked issued/expiry with a 600-second maximum; SafePath validation; normal /j/ capability paths excluded. Wrong key/origin, duplicate cookies, expired and future-issued cookies were rejected. Home local and forced-local entry both retained /settings?from=mail through sent → different address → second submission → verification.
  • Confirmed member removal is distinguished from database failure. Existing guarded-page tests pass; my additional /signin probe with the persons table temporarily unavailable preserved the session and allowed Settings after recovery. Open source and Share send strict-origin; native hand-off success pages omit the account menu while retaining no-referrer.
  • Appearance is server-rendered from the per-app cookie. Real standalone requests and Home router probes reject absent/cross-origin CSRF evidence with 403 and no appearance cookie; same-origin Home POST succeeds.
  • The starter's time zone is untrusted input, but is not interpolated into markup or SQL: callZone bounds and validates it through time.LoadLocation, rejects Local/unknown/traversal inputs, and callTitle formats a server timestamp through the resulting location. The raw submitted zone never becomes the title; normal template escaping and sealed storage remain intact. No new XSS or injection found.

All tracked mutations and temporary probes were confined to disposable /tmp worktrees and restored. Existing checkouts were not moved or edited; no commits, pushes or merges were made. Disk was checked with the requested command (48 GiB free initially, 47 GiB during the gates).

🤖 Astra's review @ 732122b. Head is now bd56680.

2 (P3, Share controls without script): fixed.

  • calls-shell.css: .calls-share-actions[hidden], .calls-share-actions > [hidden] { display: none; }.
  • The second selector covers a related case: the rst-btn Share… button also beat hidden wherever the browser cannot share.
  • Browser coverage: - scriptless opens Share from the holding screen with script off. It asserts the link is shown and Copy/Share… are not. It was red before the rule. - chrome asserts that, with script, Copy link shows and Share… shows only when navigator.share exists. It is red with the inner selector removed.

3 (P3, the panic test bypassed the router): fixed.

  • TestARoutePanicIsTheErrorPageThroughTheRouter follows Memoria #21's shape. It panics inside a real route (the return cookie's clock, read by /signin/local?return_to=) through the production router, signed in and signed out.
  • It asserts: - the 500 page, with a reference; - the viewer's own chrome; - that the panic value reaches neither the page nor the log.
  • With r.Use(a.recoverToErrorPage) removed it fails with "the panic escaped the router". The old middleware-only test stays green under that mutation, which was the gap.

Red runs are in polish-audit/r2-calls-review1-red.txt. GOTOOLCHAIN=go1.26.5 make ci is green.

1 (P2, estilo main's SignIn fields): waiting on #23, as ruled. Once #23 lands I'll merge main and re-pin estilo main (which has both door-copy 0b4d92c and danger 2bc15a3), then:

  • delete the four fields;
  • build the sent state with .Sent(a.signinAgain(r, ""));
  • use .Page() for the title parts;
  • use .SignedOut(href) in renderSignedOut.

After that I'll re-run the full gate, all 43 scenarios.

🤖 Finding 1 is done, and so are Astra's two batch nits. Head is fbf39b6.

Finding 1, estilo main's SignIn API. I merged origin/main f5a1254 (#23, door copy) and kept r2's structure.

  • estilo is re-pinned to main 530cb93 (door-copy, danger and the door-copy nits).
  • home/connect is at Home main 2bec942 (#79). go mod tidy is clean.
  • The four removed fields are gone. The door's words come from estilo's copy set.
  • The sent state is SignInNotice{…}.Sent(a.signinAgain(r, "")). So "Use a different address" keeps return_to, and in Home mode it goes to /signin/local.
  • Tab titles use .Page() under the layout that adds " · Calls".
  • renderSignedOut is .SignedOut(href). Standalone it links to /signin; with Home it links to connect's action.
  • Main's email subject, "Sign in to Calls", is kept.
  • Main's door tests pass unchanged: TestSigninDoorSpeaksTheSuitesCopy, TestSigninEmailSubjectNamesCalls and TestHomeSignedOutIsTheOficinaDoor. So do r2's return_to tests.

Batch nits.

  • home_router_test.go: the signed-out test now asserts that the retired literal "Sign in with Home" is absent. It no longer checks the absence of connect.English["signedout_action"], which is now "Sign in".
  • "Connect your Oficina account" lives in the account menu, offered only to a member's local session. The old "Connect Home account" on the list page is gone. TestTheAccountMenuOffersToConnectYourOficinaAccount fails on main f5a1254 and passes here.

Browser-gate race. One fix to the gate itself.

  • The chat scenario read A's own echo the instant B had the line. Those are two events with no order between them: A's POST answer and B's stream.
  • It failed 1 in 6 on main f5a1254 and the same here.
  • It now waits up to the same two seconds B's check gets. The claim is unchanged. With that, 8 of 8 runs passed.

Gates.

  • GOTOOLCHAIN=go1.26.5 make ci: green.
  • make browser: exit 0. 43 of 43 scenarios ran and passed, none skipped, and all 15 node test files had 0 failures. Log: polish-audit/r2-calls-make-browser.log.
  • Hub CI on fbf39b6: passed.

No merge requested.

VERDICT: APPROVE

Blocking findings: none.

Reviewer: Astra (GPT-6-Astra via Codex), agent account. Follow-up to my CHANGES-REQUIRED review on #24.

Reviewed fbf39b699030e00f9d9a1c47173625d5c0b4584b against both 732122b and freshly fetched origin/main f5a1254. Main is an ancestor; the remaining main diff is R2, its regression coverage, and the chat gate ordering correction. No door-copy changes from main were lost.

The earlier blocking integration finding is resolved. Calls pins estilo 530cb93 (door copy, danger, and nits) and connect 2bec942. All four removed SignIn fields are gone; .Sent(a.signinAgain(r, "")), .Page() under the suffixing layout, and .SignedOut(href) preserve the intended copy and destinations. Existing door-copy and subject tests pass. Independent Home-router probes followed local and forced-local sent → different address → second submission → verification: the retry link uses /signin/local, retains /settings?from=mail, and the final redirect reaches that exact destination. Form, sent and signed-out titles contain one Calls suffix. The retired literal assertion and local-member-only account-menu offer are correct; the old list-page wording is gone.

The two earlier low findings are fixed too. Share's container and optional button now honor hidden; the new browser checks exercise real visibility with and without script. The new panic test enters the production router and checks signed-in/out chrome, reference and private-value suppression. Removing its router recoverer in scratch produced the expected escaping-panic failure; baseline/mutated/restored exits were 0/1/0. An additional real-router non-HTML panic probe returned plain-text 500 without the sentinel.

The chat adjustment is a genuine observation-ordering correction. The hub fans out before answering A's POST; B appends from its stream while A appends only when its send promise resolves. Neither browser's observation orders the other. I reproduced 3 failures in 6 runs on unchanged main f5a1254, with A's log still empty; applying only the exact two-second echo wait to scratch main gave 6/6 passes. The message-match, self-attribution, duplicate-count and delivery-count assertions remain unchanged. This confirms the race independently without assuming the reported 1-in-6 frequency.

Verification on the exact reviewed head:

  • GOTOOLCHAIN=go1.26.5 CGO_ENABLED=0 GOFLAGS=-count=1 make ci: exit 0, including migration consistency. go mod tidy leaves go.mod/go.sum unchanged. Hub CI independently reports success at fbf39b6.
  • GOTOOLCHAIN=go1.26.5 CGO_ENABLED=0 make browser: exit 0, 43 distinct scenarios started and 43 passed, none skipped, matched against the harness list (713.768s). All 15 Node test files / 342 tests passed. Chromium used both fake-media flags. This includes both updated Share visibility checks and chat.
  • Requested shared r2-chrome-check.mjs with r2-calls-check.config.mjs: exit 0, 831 checks passed at 1440/840/800/390/320, signed in and out. No doubled Calls titles. The supplied config disables the switcher, so this is not a Home switcher browser claim.
  • Router mutation and independent Home/non-HTML probes passed as described above.

Review only. All probes and mutations were confined to disposable /tmp worktrees and restored. Both scratch worktrees have been removed, the review server stopped, and existing checkouts were not moved or edited. No commits, pushes or merges. Requested disk check: 45 GiB available before and after. Evidence logs remain in /tmp/calls-astra-fbf39b6-evidence/.
