Review: the rail's foot is the suite's account menu, a drop-up (Paul 2026-10-01) open

On branch feat/account-dropup

Live answered 83f6d62. Head 0d8dac3 (one commit). It depends on oficina/estilo #23 (feat/menu-dropup, fd9e235), which must land first. After that, re-pin estilo main.

Why

Paul, 2026-10-01: "Since Fichas is sidebar-first, let's put any shared stuff in the bottom left and maybe roll it into a dropup". The rail's foot showed the bare address and a bordered "Sign out" (r3 finding 3, S4).

What

The foot is now estilo's account menu with Rail: true. There is no hand-rolled menu in Fichas.

  • The trigger is a square, rail-wide row: an avatar with initials, then the address.
  • From 800px it opens upward as a floating 9px panel the width of the foot.
  • Below 800px the rail is rastrillo's "≑ Menu" disclosure at the top of the page. The control is at the disclosed rail's foot, and the panel opens downward there, because there is no room above it.

It carries:

  • Signed in as {address}.
  • All apps β†’ HOME_DIRECTORY_ORIGIN + / when that is set. It is new config, validated at boot: an https origin, or loopback http; anything else refuses to start. It is unset in production today, so the row won't show until it's configured.
  • Appearance: Light, Dark, System, with the current one checked (aria-pressed). It is a form POST to /appearance (chrome.HandleAppearance), mounted inside csrf.Protect and outside the session guard, as in the other apps. Every page, the door and the error page included, draws <html data-theme> from the cookie in the first byte.
  • One Sign out.
  • Not carried: "Connect your Oficina account", because Fichas has no Home connect (no home/connect or handoff). Help β†’ Open source, because Fichas has no credits page (r3 finding 19); with no Help items, estilo omits the Help heading.

Assets: estilo's menu.css and chrome.js now come via scripts/writeestilo and are pinned by TestDoorFilesAreEstilos. The shell links menu.css, chrome.css and chrome.js.

Red first (polish-audit/r3/scripts/r2-fichas-dropup-red.txt)

On 83f6d62, with only Config.Directory declared, all of these failed:

  • TestTheRailFootIsTheAccountMenu
  • TestAllAppsWhenThereIsAHubDirectory
  • TestAppearanceIsChosenInTheAccountMenu (404 on /appearance)
  • TestLoadConfigTakesTheDirectoryOrigin
  • TestDoorFilesAreEstilos
  • the browser test TestTheAccountMenuOpensUpward ("the rail's foot has no account menu")

Mutation Rail: false: the browser test fails at 1440 (the panel opens downward and goes off screen at x=-17).

The 1440 screenshot then showed the panel clipped by the rail. I added an edge check, which went red, and fixed it in estilo (fd9e235).

The usual rules, checked

  • Rounded corners only on the float: the panel is 9px and the trigger is 0px, at every width.
  • Escape closes it and focus returns to the trigger. An outside click closes it; focus goes where the click went, with no focus steal, which is estilo chrome.js's behaviour in every app.
  • Reachable at 390 and 320: open "≑ Menu"; the account is the last thing in the rail. The open panel is wholly on screen and unclipped, and a tap at Sign out's centre hits it.
  • CLS 0: opening it at every width, and list β†’ card β†’ fields β†’ list.

Gates

  • make ci green. make browser green (Playwright Chromium 1148).
  • CI passed at 0d8dac3.
  • polish-audit/r2-fichas-chrome-check.mjs is Fichas-specific: the shared check is [estilo-bar]-shaped. At 1440/840/800/390/320 over seven signed-in pages: 193 ok, 0 FAIL. On base: 76 FAIL, all for the missing account menu. - Known-open and not in this branch: titles say lowercase "fichas" (r3 #2), and unknown routes are text/plain 404s (r3 #1). - The link check ignores the clipped, invisible skip link. When focused it is body text; unfocused it is the browser default, but it is never drawn.
  • Screenshots: polish-audit/shots/r2-fichas-dropup-{before,after}-, at 1440/390/320, including `account-open-`.

Landing note

Rebase onto chore/rastrillo-path if that lands first. Expect conflicts in go.mod/go.sum and vendoredtest.go. Also change `internal/fichastest/accounttest.go's import github.com/carlosframework/rastrillo/db to amadan.net/rastrillo/rastrillo/db`, or TestNoPreMoveRastrillo fails.

VERDICT: APPROVE-WITH-NITS

Whole-branch review of feat/account-dropup at 0d8dac3b2349a967dfd219e625c22a059257dc0c against freshly fetched origin/design/rulings-2026-09-19 (83f6d62), following REVIEW-BRIEF.md and AGENTS.md. No blocking correctness or security finding.

  1. P3 β€” internal/fichas/config.go:189–195: tighten the origin validator and cover default-port loopback URLs. isLocal(v+"/") rejects valid http://localhost and http://127.0.0.1; IPv6 loopback without a port is also rejected. Explicit-port loopback URLs work. Conversely, https://:443 passes because Host is nonempty although Hostname is empty, and / becomes the unset value after slash trimming. I reproduced each case. The consequence is avoidable local boot refusal or a broken/omitted All apps link under malformed operator configuration, not a request-driven redirect vulnerability. Fix: distinguish truly empty input before normalization, require a nonempty parsed hostname, and validate the parsed loopback hostname independently of port/trailing slash. Add positive no-port IPv4/localhost/IPv6 cases and negative empty-host/slash cases to the config test.

Verification:

  • CGO_ENABLED=0 make ci and make browser passed using Playwright Chromium 1148 via RASTRILLO_CHROME. Remote CI passed at the exact head. TestTheAccountMenuOpensUpward also passed independently after mutation/restoration.
  • Mutation Rail: false made that browser test fail on downward opening, off-screen bounds and clipped edges at desktop width. Restoring Rail made it green.
  • The supplied r2-fichas-chrome-check.mjs against an isolated preview gave 193 passes, 0 failures across 1440/840/800/390/320 and seven signed-in pages. Panel bounds and hit tests pass, including Sign out at 390 and 320. It opens upward at and above 800px and downward inside the narrow Menu disclosure. Account trigger radius is 0px and floating panel radius 9px. Escape closes and returns focus; outside click closes. Measured CLS was 0.0000 for opening at every width and list β†’ card β†’ fields β†’ list. The known lowercase titles and plain 404 are unchanged and reported separately by the script. Inspected supplied before/after and account-open screenshots.
  • /appearance sits inside the router-wide csrf.Protect and outside the session guard. Additional router probes refused absent/hostile Origin with 403 and no cookie, refused invalid modes, and reduced absolute, scheme-relative, backslash and control-character return targets to /. Dark is present in the server-rendered html attribute and selected menu state; System removes the attribute. Door states and ErrorPage are wired to the same cookie reader.
  • Precise redirect scope: All apps comes solely from validated HOMEDIRECTORYORIGIN and does not use request Host, Referer or query parameters. However, the literal statement β€œno redirect target is taken from the request” is not true of Appearance: the shared handler deliberately accepts return_to through sessions.SafeReturn. The new app test explicitly expects a same-site /cards/new return. This is a validated local return, not an open redirect. A policy requiring a fixed destination would need the handler to return to / instead; I have not represented the current implementation as request-independent.
  • Normal HTTPS origins work; credentials, paths, nonempty queries/fragments, remote HTTP, javascript URLs and loopback-lookalike hosts are rejected. Config loads at boot. The validation edge cases are the nit above.
  • The account contains identity, optional All apps, Appearance and exactly one Sign out. No unimplemented Home connection or credits destination is offered. Labels/URLs remain template-escaped. Native details and POST forms preserve basic use with scripts off; chrome.js supplies Escape/outside-click enhancement. New assets are pinned by TestDoorFilesAreEstilos.

Landing: estilo #23 first, then Fichas #6 as a fast-forward of the live design line. Rebase this branch onto it, resolve dependency/asset-test conflicts, and change account_test.go:15 from the old db import to amadan.net/rastrillo/rastrillo/db. Otherwise the helper's db type is incompatible with the migrated AppForTest and TestNoPreMoveRastrillo also forbids the import. Re-pin estilo to its landed main head and rerun all gates and the chrome check on the combined result before the next fast-forward. Do not use stale origin/main as Fichas' landing base.

Review only: no existing checkout edits/moves and no commit, push or merge. All disposable /tmp worktrees and fixture processes removed. Requested disk check: 40 GiB free before, 37 GiB after.

πŸ€– Review fixes for Astra's APPROVE-WITH-NITS. Head is 7144092 and CI passed there. Not merged.

Rebased onto design/rulings-2026-09-19 @ e93afe3: 2ca84dc is the original commit, and 7144092 holds the fixes.

  • go.mod/go.sum: I took the rastrillo branch's side, re-pinned estilo main a264aa5, then ran go mod tidy. The only rastrillo requirement is amadan.net/rastrillo/rastrillo 29e4491; the old path is still only estilo's indirect.
  • a264aa5 has fd9e235 as an ancestor, and chrome/ and menu/ don't differ between them. go run ./scripts/writeestilo changes nothing, and doctor reports everything matching.
  • internal/fichastest/account_test.go now imports amadan.net/rastrillo/rastrillo/db, and TestNoPreMoveRastrillo is green.

P3, HOMEDIRECTORYORIGIN (config.go directoryOrigin). The old check used a string prefix. It now reads the parsed URL's hostname and port separately:

  • the host must be non-empty;
  • if there is a port, it must be 1–65535 in digits, and a trailing bare : is refused;
  • https is allowed on any host;
  • http only on localhost or a loopback IP (net.ParseIP(...).IsLoopback()), so 127.0.0.1.evil.example doesn't pass.

New cases, red first (polish-audit/r3/scripts/r2-fichas-dropup-p3-red.txt):

  • Now accepted: http://127.0.0.1, http://localhost/, http://[::1], http://127.0.0.1:8746, https://oficina.works:8443.
  • Now refused: https://:443, http://:8080, https://oficina.works:, https://oficina.works:x, https://oficina.works:99999, http://127.0.0.1.evil.example, http://localhost.evil.example:80, http://[::1].evil.
  • Before the fix, three loopback cases were refused, and https://:443, https://oficina.works: and https://oficina.works:99999 were accepted.

Appearance return_to: kept, justified.

  • This is what the other apps' /appearance does, not a Fichas variation. Docs (chrome.go:111, Return: returnTarget(r)), Sheets (chrome.go:194), Calendar (chrome_calendar.go:51, Return: r.URL.RequestURI()), Memoria (chrome.go:231) and Slides all render the current page into the form and mount chrome.HandleAppearance.
  • Spec Β§8.3 requires that handler to validate return_to with rastrillo's sessions.SafeReturn, and it does. SafeReturn takes only a path that starts with /, not //, with no backslash and no control characters; anything else becomes /.
  • The POST is inside csrf.Protect, so a cross-site form can't reach it. Even if one could, the worst outcome is a same-origin redirect and an appearance cookie.
  • Dropping it would send every Appearance click back to /, losing the page the person was on.
  • TestAppearanceIsChosenInTheAccountMenu now pins Fichas' end of this: https://evil.example/, //evil.example/, /\evil.example, /<TAB>/evil.example, javascript:alert(1) and an empty value all answer 303 to /. It was green from the start, since it guards estilo's existing behaviour rather than a fix.
  • If the suite wants Appearance to be request-independent, that's an estilo HandleAppearance change for every app, not something to do in Fichas alone.

Gates at 7144092:

  • make ci and make browser are green (Playwright Chromium 1148).
  • polish-audit/r2-fichas-chrome-check.mjs: 193 ok, 0 FAIL. The 36 known-open checks are r3 #1 (the text/plain 404) and #2 (lowercase "fichas" titles).

Landed by fast-forwarding design/rulings-2026-09-19 to 7144092. Astra approved with nits; the P3 origin validation is fixed with regression cases shown red first. Appearance's return_to is kept, as in every other app: estilo's HandleAppearance accepts same-origin paths only (SafeReturn) inside CSRF protection. The coordinating session checked the fixes. CI passed.
