Are files apps write on disk durable? Question open
On branch design-carloku-durability
Apps write files beside their databases, and nothing copies them: welp.bae's inbox tree (2.6 GB), comic-cleaner blobs (256 MB), the flat layout's shared /data/blobs (1.1 GB, internal/layout/extras.go). The platform has never said whether these survive losing a box.
Design §5.3 recommends hourly, incremental, content-addressed snapshots of instance dirs to the bucket, with 7 days kept and restore on wake. The alternative is to declare disk files not durable and move such apps to object storage. Paul's ruling needed; it's question 1 in the design's §9.
